Experience: Tesselate 1st Birthday
There are few cities such as London that can boast such a diverse ecosystem of arts-music-entertainment. The rapidly changing environment has, on the whole, kept things fresh and moving (but that isn’t to say things could be better…). As a fairly new component to the fast-moving clubbing environment, Tessellate have been holding monthly parties in the capital, inviting notable names to man the dance-floor including Hypercolour golden boy Tom Demac, rapidly successful new-comer Citizen, and established selector XXXY.
Now on their tenth event, the guys at Tessellate have curated the most delectable lineup. Heading the bill for their event on Friday 6th June will be Hackman, a DJ-producer who has risen through the ranks steadily since emerging onto the scene in 2010 with his More Than Ever EP on PTN (also home to Breach‘s SWAMP81 styled Fatherless release). Now a proponent of the perennial Futureboogie stable, Hackman is showing no signs of slowing with his latest release on the label (the beautiful Change My Life EP). Next on the lineup is Sheffield-based Oliver Ledger aka Squarehead. Signed to labels such as Pets Records and Wolf Music, we can be sure to expect nothing less than tropical, hands-up vibes. Launched by 2012’s highly likeable Elegante EP (5and7) and hot off last March’s Dead Reyt EP, Ledger will be sure to get bodies moving. Next is London’s very own Casino Times, a producer-DJ duo consisting of Nick Church and Joseph Spencer. A string of well-formed productions have seen Casino Times gather a loyal following and invited onto a number of well-received remixes. For Room 1 expect a seamless mix of Chicago-Detroit Funk infused goodness.
Taking over Room 2 is the burgeoning Bade Records. Seemingly out of nowhere the London-Leeds based imprint have been making movements in the underground, edging their way into track-lists and dance-floors across the country. There is no doubt that this collective will become a prominent feature for 2015. Taking Innervisions as a reference, the label have fashioned a dark, brooding palate which explores the deeper side of the House-Techno locale. Ben Böhmer‘s Black Pattern EP will no doubt feature on the night and will be a precedent for future releases on the imprint. DJs will include Bade Records founders James Sison and Edward Antonio, as well as new Leeds-based talent Kesper, hot off his debut release on Slipstone Records (which incidentally featured on our first edition of the mix series as the opening track: Elevated Mix Series 001: Noa.)
